so last sunday, for those of you who weren't there, we were standing around my gram's table getting ready to pray when someone in my family mentioned where i'd be the following sunday (rome). at that time i never imagined that i'd actually be standing in Saint Peter's Square in the Vatican with tens of thousands of other people while the Pope himself blessed us and sang the ave maria!! It was so amazing... I hear that he comes out and blesses the crowd every sunday at noon, but this sunday happened to be the day of Jesus' baptism so the Pope spoke for about 15 minutes in five different languages. I have a video clip of him speaking to, haha.
We then took a long walk through Vatican city, across the river up to the Spanish Steps and hung out there in the warm sunshine for a while. It was a really peaceful and beautiful day- i can't wait until it gets warmer here so we dont have to wear so many layers. It was about 50 today, much warmer in the sun and colder in the shade. But the sky gets so blue, its great for picture taking. So for some shots of the day click HERE and check them out!
Love you all!
Hi Ashley,
ReplyDeleteI think your haircut is so adorable! I just love it! I enjoy following your blogs. You tend to go into more detail about all the things you are seeing and doing and your pictures are just plain great! You all seem like you are having so much fun. I'm proud of all the adventures you have had so far. Have a wonderful time in your first week of classes.
Take care and stay healthy,
Lori
The pictures are beautiful today and your time is off to such a great start! We miss you, nonetheless. Love, Jayne P.S. I love your hair, too.
ReplyDeleteP.S.S. Remember your Black and Gold....
Rose,
ReplyDeleteGreat pics.
I'm particularly interested in the dredge on the Teveres River.
Do you think your class may be studying this?
What is the capacity of the clam shell bucket?
What size is the generator engine?
Do that have spud poles and how are the spuds lifted?
What size barges do they use for transporting the dredged material?
What is the draft of the vessel?
What is the maximum dredging depth?
Are there any environmental considerations needed to be addressed prior to dredging?
Is there a full time tending boat?
Let me know when you get a chance.
The pics of those old buildings are nice too.
Love,
Dad
Ashley,
ReplyDeleteI'm sooooooo excited for you!!!! I keep picturing this world map in my head with an arc of a dotted line from Pgh. to Rome, I can't believe you're there! I'm really enjoying "following" you and Adam around Rome. How humbling it must be to stand amidst some of the greatest architectual and artistic achievenments in the world! It's amazing when you consider the vision, the talent, and the sheer amount of back-breaking labor that has made this city. And to think that most of the people spent their entire lives working on one small area of a building or project and never saw the completion of their work. What an honor to experience the result of God's plan for so many lives! Be safe and know that I'm praying for you and Adam, and all of your friends.
Love you,
Aunt Lynne
